Eve Goodman grew up in North Wales, and has had a deep relationship with singing and sounding for as long as she can remember. Eve writes and performs in both Welsh and English. Having spent much of her childhood feeling things deeply, music became a way to give voice to her inner landscape, allowing her to express herself in a reflective and honest way. “Music is like a portal to my emotions, a way of transmuting and transcribing them.”
Influenced by the artistry and the expression of intuitive solo voices like Joni Mitchell, Nick Drake and Adrienne Lenker, Eve combines honest lyricism with mesmerising musical hooks and patterns. She delivers each song with captivatingclarity; from the crystal sonics of her vocals to the clarion beauty of her words. Inspired by nature and the more-than-human world, her songs connect deeply to inner and outer landscapes.
Eve’s ability to transmute her experiences into beauty has made her forthcoming debut album, Summer Sun, Winter Trees, a powerful listen. With a captivating and unflinching honesty, the record is a deeply personal meditation on the loss of her father to suicide. Through her songs, Eve shines a light on her grief and unanswered questions; despite it all, these beautiful, raw songs take us on a journey towards finding joy again.
“The songs are a capture of my moods, my headspace, and the symbols and imagery that arose from my subconscious and found their way into my words during a time of deep grief. Some songs are very direct and others came out as more of a stream of consciousness. The songs were initially written as a personal catharsis, never to be shared. They soon began to tug at my sleeve, wanting to be heard. My hope is that thealbum shines a light on the nuances of grief, and helps people feel less alone. It was only when I faced the death of someone so close that I knew what it meant to feel alive.”
Based in Y Felinheli by the sea, Eve finds strength and inspiration in her community and in the abundant natural beauty of the land. She has a strong vocal practice and after studying improvisation and ritual singing for a year with leading vocal improviser Briony Greenhill, her music is moving into exciting new territories. “I have fallen in love with improvising. Singing ‘the music of now’ has been a beautiful way to presence myself to the inspiration that is available in every moment. Doing this with other singers especially is my new favourite way to work.” Eve is currently working on various improvisational vocal pieces and is studying Voice Therapy with the British Academy of Sound Therapy.
