Evan Yako returns to the House
Experience the groundbreaking fusion of cultural heritage and innovative music with 6774 Assyria Ave Jazz Town at Sydney Opera House. Evan Yako, an Assyrian-Australian session drummer, educator, and music producer, is the creative director of Real Rhythm Studio in Sydney. His unique drumming style, which began with childhood experiments using pots, pans, and plastic buckets, has evolved into a passion for World fusion jazz.
Evan made history as the first Assyrian to hold a concert at the Sydney Opera House last year with his debut solo album, Inspirational Stories released in 2023. Now, he returns with a captivating new album that blends world fusion jazz with an a cappella Assyrian singing style called Raweh. Traditionally performed at weddings and parties without rhythmic accompaniment, Raweh is a reflection of the Assyrian community's deep-rooted traditions and resilience. It embodies the collective memory and shared experiences of a people who have preserved their cultural identity through centuries of upheaval. Evan has incorporated time signatures into this style, creating an instrumental piece with traditional vocal elements.
A passionate advocate for connecting his Assyrian roots with his new Australian home, Evan uses his personal experiences to inspire and connect with others through his art. His passion project, Healing Through Evan Yako’s Drumming, supports young people in schools, emphasising the power of music.
Join Evan Yako and his ten-piece band, for an unforgettable evening at the where cultural heritage meets innovative World fusion jazz. Don’t miss this unique musical experience that promises to captivate and inspire.
