About this Event
Join us for an opportunity to hear from two luminaries of EU law and friends of the University of Glasgow:
Sir Ian Forrester KC, former judge in the General Court of the Court of Justice of the European Union (2015-2020) and Knight Bachelor in the 2026 New Year Honours,
Dame Eleanor Sharpston KC, former Advocate General in the Court of Justice of the European Union (2006-2020) and Dame Commander of the Order of Saint Michael and Saint George in the 2025 New Years Honours.
Our distinguished guests will be invited to draw on their extensive experience to reflect on working as lawyers and judges at the heart of the European legal order. The conversation will explore their perspectives on the evolving place of the UK – and Scotland – in Europe, and on the role that legal institutions, ideas, and individuals can play at a time of uncertain geopolitics.
The event offers a unique opportunity to engage with two leading figures in European law, whose work has shaped legal thinking and practice in the UK and beyond. Please participate by submitting questions you would like our chairperson to put to our guests on the evening.
The School of Law and the University of Glasgow are delighted to honour the contributions these leading legal scholars and practitioners have made to the UK legal landscape and to European legal history.
The event is in-person only, but a recording will be made for the purposes of making a detailed note of the event to be published in blog format by the School of Law.
