Arts Advocates and Art Center Sarasota are co-sponsors of this talk by Sarasota Art Colony artist Eugene White’s daughter Annie Bixler and Alecia Harper, centennial archivist and guest curator for Art Center Sarasota. Admission is free but registration is required at ArtsAdvocates.org.
A graduate of the Ringling School of Art, Eugene White (1913-1966) devoted his life to painting the world around him—from Florida’s working waterfronts to rural Midwestern farms. His impressionist works capture vivid light and human warmth, portraying the daily lives of fishermen, farmers, and neighbors with empathy and color. Celebrated in national juried exhibitions, White’s art reflects both the landscape and the spirit of Sarasota’s mid-century moment. His daughter, Annie Bixler, is a lifelong steward of art, story, and place. Surrounded early by creativity, color, and craftsmanship, Annie absorbed the artistic spirit that would shape her life’s journey. A proud Sarasota native, Annie is a graduate of Sarasota High School, Manatee Junior College, and the University of West Florida. Alecia Harper is a passionate advocate for arts education and public engagement. A docent emerita at the Ringling Museum of Art, she currently teaches art history and humanities at State College of Florida.
