✨One of the greatest contributions the Eugene Concert Choir organization has made to the choral repertoire is the commission of the beautifully sensitive masterwork Shadow and Light by Portland composer Joan Szymko. It has resonated deeply with audiences, eliciting responses like, “How did you know to tell my story?” Simultaneously heart-wrenching, uplifting, and enlightening, its poignant words and gorgeous melodies have touched many lives, offering both understanding and comfort.
The 2016 world premiere performance and recording by Eugene Vocal Arts and Orchestra won the American Prize, and the video documentary The Story of Shadow and Light won Best Documentary at the 2017 Oregon Independent Film Festival.
