About this Event
The Buna Tetu ceremony is a daily tradition in Ethiopian and Eritrean culture, led by women. In the ceremony, green coffee beans are washed, roasted over an open flame, ground by hand, then brewed and served from a traditional jebena pot. The aroma of roasted coffee intermingles with burning frankincense to create an atmosphere of peace and healing.
The gathering goes beyond a coffee break. Repeated throughout the day, this ritual of slow coffee creates space for people to chat about everyday matters, engage in deep conversation, and connect with one another emotionally and spiritually – a vital component in building community.
