This workshop will give you the opportunity to learn about ethics, diversity, and suicide referral in a unique way. You may choose any topic or complete all specifically required training during a full day of didactic and experiential learning with the aid of horses. The classroom will be located in an arena and, if needed, indoors. We will review the function of the NASW Code of Ethics as well as ethical principles and standards, you will then be able to work through at least one ethical dilemma with the horses. After an open conversation about bias and its influence in an implicit or explicit way, you will explore this further in the arena. You will also spend time with the horses identifying and problem-solving challenges that present themselves when making referrals for clients who struggle with suicide.Equine Assisted Learning is an interactive, experiential model utilizing a treatment team of mental health specialists, equine specialists, and horses. It allows the participant to work through the presented challenge in the here and now. No horse experience is necessary and all activities are ground based, no riding is involved.
