ABOUT OUR FEATURED READERS:
ETHEL MORTENSON DAVIS was born in Wisconsin where her parents were dairy farmers in Marathon County. She studied art at the University of Wisconsin—Madison. Her artwork has been featured in publications and on book covers. She has also participated in co-editing Bramble Literary Magazine and Wisconsin Poets Calendar, 2003. Her work in publishing has led to the formation of Four Windows Press that she and her husband, Thomas Davis, the novelist, poet, and educator, manage.
Her years on the farm instilled a deep sense of the earth and the various forms of life, all of which are integrated into both her abstract pastels and poetry. Influenced by imagist poets, she has published seven books of poetry: I Sleep Between the Moons of New Mexico, White Ermine Across Her Shoulders, Here We Breathe In Sky and Out Sky, The Healer, Under the Tail of the Milky Way Galaxy (a 2019 Wisconsin Library Association outstanding book of poetry), A Letter on the Horizon’s Poem, and A Gatherer. Her poems have appeared in print in magazines, anthologies, and small literary journals.
The Davises have two daughters. Their son passed away in 2010.

THOMAS DAVIS has had two epic poems, two books of poetry, five novels, and one book of non-fiction published by publishers ranging from All Things That Matter Press to Bennison Books (a British Publisher) to Tribal College Press to State University of New York (SUNY) Press. His poetry book, Meditation on Ceremonies of Beginnings, the Tribal College and World Indigenous Nations Higher Education Poems, was named an Outstanding Book of Poetry by a Wisconsin Poet. His novel, In the Unsettled Homeland of Dreams, won the Edna Ferber Fiction Award. His latest novel is The Prophecy of the Wolf.
In his non-literary life, he has been the Chief Academic Officer or President of four tribal colleges or universities. He helped found the College of the Menominee Nation in Keshena, Wisconsin and was one of those who founded the international organization, the World Indigenous Nations Higher Education Consortium.
He and his wife, Ethel Mortenson, own and operate Four Windows Press, a small publishing company, and he has been the Editor/co-Editor of three periodical and two poetry anthologies. He and Ethel also edited Bramble Literary Magazine and Wisconsin Poets Calendar, 2003.
