Speaker: Courtney Johnson, LPC-A, is a licensed professional counselor associate at Solace Counseling and Anxiety Center under the supervision of Allison Cooper, LPC-S. She earned her Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling in 2023 and provides therapy for individuals navigating life stressors, anxiety, and depression. With a background as a licensed physical therapist assistant, Courtney brings a unique dual perspective that integrates both physical and mental health into her therapeutic work.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this session, clinicians will be able to:
1. Identify red flags—including behaviors, language, and mood—that may signal suicide risk, in order to strengthen awareness and timely recognition within their scope of practice.
2. Recognize that professional curiosity is acceptable and appropriate in clinical practice, thereby increasing confidence in addressing potential suicide risk while maintaining therapeutic boundaries.
3. Analyze immediate circumstances surrounding a patient’s presentation to determine the most effective, scope-appropriate course of action that prioritizes safety.
4. Identify the appropriate contact or referral pathway within their specific practice setting, ensuring that action steps are confident, clear, and professionally aligned.
5. Evaluate personal understanding and growth by reflecting on knowledge gained during the session, reinforcing both awareness of suicide risk and confidence in implementing next-step actions within scope of practice.
