I will be focusing on prayerfully and patiently discerning God’s will when searching for posts and trusting God’s guidance. Hello I am Amy Taylor, a Second Year Ordinand at St. Stephen’s House in Oxford and from the
Diocese of Chelmsford. I am a former Secondary School Teacher and Senior Leader who took a
career-break to travel and improve my Spanish but never went back to teaching, using the time to
listen to the “still small voice” of God and pursue my calling to ordained ministry.
I will be speaking about what scripture teaches us about gentleness and, starting with Elijah, find
some lessons that the Bible has for us about how to cultivate gentleness in our own life and
ministry.

“Self-Compassion : Creating gentle boundaries as a Christian Minister
We are called as a Christian minister’s to be Servants, what can be incredibly hard is to draw appropriate boundaries of self-care and gentle compassion toward oneself, especially when we are faced with ministering in a Church that has many demands and needs. But without appropriate boundaries we can all to easily burn-out. Through Mindful Self-Compassion, Ruth explores how we can use this gentle and courageous practice to treat ourselves with the same kindness and understanding that you would offer a friend or a parishioner in times of struggle or self-doubt. The practice encourages new patterns of care toward oneself when we are struggling with feelings of inadequacy, or when we have made mistakes, in supportive and nurturing ways. Ruth, explores how this mindful practice is deeply rooted in the life and ministry of Jesus and how in much of his teaching he encourages us into a tri-fold relationship of love for God, Neighbour, and Self. “
Ruth is a curate in Llandaff diocese, in the Church in Wales. Before ministry Ruth was a professional musician and educator. Ruth has a passion for well-ness and well-being, and is an advocate for mental well-being, seeing it as a deeply attractive asset to the Church’s offering. She has offered workshops to teachers and ministers in using the practice of Self-Compassion in the vocational life.
Ruth lives in Wales with her husband a psychotherapist and priest, and has two almost grown up children, and two rescue Dogs; Alma and Lukie.
