About this Event
The Estuary experience is a monthly conversation that fosters honesty and trust. Like an estuary—where fresh and salt water meet—it invites the kind of dialogue that holds space for friction and depth.
Where: The Wright House at St. George's Episcopal Church, 4301 N Interstate Hwy 35, Austin, TX 78722 (see map below for building location and parking).
What to bring: An idea or topic.
In its simplest form, the Estuary protocol is run by a facilitator who follows the 3 Ps: pitch → point → play. After introductions, we move through the following:
Round 1: Pitch (think of your pitch ahead of time)
Everyone pitches an idea or topic that falls under one of four categories:
- Intellectual: This can be a podcast you’ve listened to, a book you have read, a movie you’ve seen, or a thought-provoking idea.
- Cultural/Contextual: World events, something happening locally in your area, politics, etc
- Personal: This can be something you are going through right now, a life change like moving, having a baby,
getting married, getting divorced, breaking up, starting a new job, death of a loved one, etc. While the group may not discuss this specific thing, it is nice to know what is happening in each other's lives. - Estuary-related: This relates to Estuary itself—what you’re thinking of the group, the protocol, or any thoughts you may have regarding issues at large with Estuary.
Round 2: Point
During this round, we point to the idea we most want to discuss; you can’t point to yourself.
Round 3: Play
Discuss the chosen topic; the facilitator keeps time and monitors tone.
