Esso Poetry Open Mic returns, featuring one of our beloved regulars, Roxanne Doty! Sign-up for the open mic begins shortly before 5 p.m. Hosted by Russ Kazmierczak, Jr.About Our Feature:
Roxanne fell in love with Phoenix and the surrounding deserts when she moved here from New York back “in the day,” leaving a couple of times to live in Minneapolis and Tehran, Iran but she always came back. She returned for good in the 1990s with her daughter to teach at ASU for the next 30 years. After much time writing dry, often soul-destroying academic “stuff,” she stumbled uncertainly to fiction and poetry. She has published short stories and poems in various journals and a novel (Out Stealing Water) in 2022. Her first poetry chapbook was published in 2024 and a collection will come out sometime in 2026. She is an avid cat lover with Carl and Zoe taking up space indoors while an assortment of strays come by from time to time for food and kind words.
