About this Event

Join us for a morning that will open your eyes-- and ears!-- to spoken English.

  • Learn how the Color Vowel Chart represents the sounds and rhythms of spoken English and why English learners of all ages and levels find it so accessible.
  • Practice simple yet effective strategies that help English learners build speaking fluency and clarity.
  • Gain practical insights into spoken English and how you can integrate pronunciation into every lesson.
  • Receive ready-to-use materials, including a copy of the Color Vowel Chart and a sampler of our newest book, Color Vowel Classroom Games.
  • Participants will receive a $30 coupon that may be applied to future enrollment in an upcoming Color Vowel Level 1 Certification program.

Whether you are helping low-literacy English learners or teaching highly-educated non-native English speakers, this workshop will deliver rich insights and a firm understanding of how Color Vowel strategies bridge the gap between spoken and written English.


Workshop Facilitators

Karen Taylor holds an MA in TESOL from the Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey and a BA in English Literature from Georgetown University. She taught TESOL graduate courses for nine years as Practitioner in Residence at American University and served as Adult ESL Coordinator at Santa Fe Community College in New Mexico before returning to the DC area to devote herself full-time to training teachers in the Color Vowel Approach. Karen is co-author of the Color Vowel Chart.

Shirley Thompson holds an MA in Linguistics from the University of Michigan and a BA in History and African Studies from Kalamazoo College. Shirley served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Bénin and Togo, taught for 25 years at the George Washington University, and served as a Fulbright Senior Lecturer in Senegal. She later founded the ESL program at All Souls Church in Washington DC. Shirley is co-author of the Color Vowel Chart.
