Accessible Escape Room with Washington Talking Book and Braille LibraryEscape rooms are popular real-life strategy games that have gained popularity over the years as people put their problem-solving skills to the test. An escape room is a thrilling physical game where players are confined to a “locked” room and must solve puzzles within a specific amount time to break free and win.
DSB and the Washington Talking Book and Braille Library (WTBBL) are happy to bring this thrilling experience to Yakima!
During this fast paced and fun activity, participants will make decisions and practice their communications skills while problem solving in a real-life puzzle adventure in a themed room.
With just one hour to escape, the teams must examine the elements in the room to unlock clues, solve puzzles, and eventually escape by:
🔸 Practicing the skills of self-advocacy to effectively communicate, convey, negotiate, or assert their ideas to interpret clues.
🔸 Applying interpersonal skills like teamwork, communications, active listening, conflict resolution, and more to negotiate the puzzles.
🔸 Collaborating with teammates to overcome obstacles and solve the mysteries of the escape room.
🔸 Building bonds with new friends and fostering connections with teammates.
Escape rooms also help build participant problem solving skills and boost confidence. After the event, participants will have an opportunity to reflect on the activity and discuss how these skills can be used in their education, workplace, and community settings.
WHO
Pre-ETS participants (students aged 14-21 who are Blind, Deaf-Blind, or Low Vision). Students interested in learning more about becoming a DSB participants can contact Jazmin Rials to learn how to register.
