***ENGLISH BELOW***Techno ist seit den 1990er Jahren nicht mehr aus Berlin wegzudenken. Hier entwickelte sich die Musik zu einem Massenphänomen. Wie kam es dazu? Die Ausstellung „The Birth of Techno" wirft einen Blick auf die Anfänge: Im Detroit der 1980er Jahre produzierten afroamerikanische Künstler:innen erste Technoplatten. Musikexpert:innen aus Berlin begannen, sich für diese neue, schnelle und repetitive Musik zu interessieren und machten sie in Berlin bekannt.
„The Birth of Techno" zeigt die afroamerikanischen Einflüsse auf Techno, den Austausch zwischen Detroit und Berlin, Aneignungs- und Vermarktungsstrategien sowie die eigensinnigen kleinteiligen Strukturen der Technoszenen in beiden Städten. Damit vermittelt die Ausstellung die Komplexität von Techno und seinen Bezügen und wirft neue Perspektiven auf die hierzulande meist eurozentristischen Erzählungen über Techno.
Zur Eröffnung wird der Detroiter Künstler und Mitglied von Underground Resistance Abdul Qadim Haqq seine Sichtweise auf Techno in Malerei übersetzen. Während der Eröffnung entsteht ein Gemälde, was während der Dauer der Ausstellung zu sehen sein wird.

Since the 1990s, it has been impossible to imagine Berlin without techno. Here, the music developed into a mass phenomenon. How did that happen? The exhibition "The Birth of Techno" takes a look at the beginnings: In Detroit in the 1980s, African-American artists produced the first techno records. Music experts from Berlin began to take an interest in this new, fast and repetitive music and made it known in Berlin.
"The Birth of Techno" shows the African-American influences on techno and the exchange between Detroit and Berlin. But the exhibition also takes a look at cases of appropriation and big marketing strategies as well as at the small-scale, stubborn structures of the techno scenes in both cities. In this way, the exhibition conveys the complexity of techno and its references and casts new perspectives on the mostly Eurocentric narratives about techno.
At the opening, Detroit artist and member of Underground Resistance Abdul Qadim Haqq will translate his view of techno into painting. During the opening a painting will be created, which will be on display for the duration of the exhibition.
