Calgary-based alternative singer-songwriter Eric John is excited to announce the upcoming release of his sophomore album, 'A Punch of Colour', set to launch on November 23rd, 2024. This highly anticipated album features ten original tracks that draw from Eric's small-town Saskatchewan roots, infused with personal stories and experiences shaped by his life thus far.
Recorded in the rustic, 100-year-old outbuilding of Blue Willow Studios, the production of the album exudes authenticity, grounding its sound in an organic, intimate space. This unique setting imbues the album with character, enhancing Eric's blend of timeless storytelling and up-tempo energy.
'A Punch of Colour' balances raw vulnerability with hopeful resilience as the protagonist navigates complex feelings of not fitting in, relationship pressures, and the weight of overwhelming circumstances. With the talent of David Esseltine on lead guitar and Trent Wiesner on drums, the album combines high-energy anthems with softer, melodic tracks, drawing influences from Kings of Leon, Coldplay, City and Colour, and U2. It maintains a rock foundation, often building to emotional climaxes while exploring somber undertones.
Eric’s music is defined by its authenticity and its ability to connect with listeners on a deep emotional level. His songs tell stories of love, heartache, and personal growth, often drawing from his own life experiences. Eric Braun is an accomplished country singer-songwriter and guitarist. Taking influence from songwriting legends as well as guitar heavyweights, Eric has taken the influences of his heroes and melded them into a style that is uniquely his own. Growing up, Eric’s favourite artists were all artists who wrote and performed their own songs. It struck him how amazing it was that someone’s unique experience actually had the ability to speak to many people. He found that incredibly inspiring, and it’s what he aims to do with his own music.
Eric released his debut EP, “Clear Your Mind” in 2017, and the follow up single “(Please Don’t) Give Me Hope” in 2019. He is currently working on recording new material with Blue Willow Studios.
