Join us for a fun, interactive and hands-on Equine First Aid Clinic taught by BC's Senior Equi-Health Canada Instructor Courtney Gledstone at Metchosin Equestrian Society on April 27th.Event Schedule for the weekend:
April 27th - Equine Health and Emergency First Aid (Level 1) - 9am to 4:30pm
April 28th - Disaster Planning and Emergency Preparedness - 9am to 4:30pm
April 27th we will cover the basics of Equine Emergency First Aid:
- taking proper vital signs
- normal vs. abnormal vital signs
- when to contact the vet and what information they need to be provided with
- different wound types and how to bandage them on different parts of the horse
- how to identify and manage colic
- how to identify and manage choking
- how to identify when a horse is in shock
- recognizing pain in the horse
- sources of pain and alleviation
- recognizing and treating different issues with the foot
- and so much more
April 28th we will be covering Disaster Planning and Emergency Preparedness for livestock owners:
- Intro to Emergency Preparedness and Emergency Planning
- Horse Behaviors in Disasters
- Barn Fires, Grass/Forest Fires, Barn/Shelter Collapse, Flooding
- Extreme Weather and Weather Disasters
- Utility Outages
- Evacuation Procedures and when to activate your plan
- Develop a plan for evacuation, and shelter in place procedures

This program was developed and is maintained by a board of equine professional including veterinarians, and farriers.
Courtney has been teaching for over 7 years and loves sharing her knowledge with members of the equine community who are looking to learn how to help their horses. Courtney travels across BC to share this extremely valuable information.
