Meet the horses who help with EMDR, learn about the unique form of therapy, and watch (or participate) in some equine EMDR exercises.
About this Event

Southern Nevada first responders (including police officers, dispatchers, emergency medical technicians, firefighters, coroners/medical examiners, and the Southern Nevada Health District) are invited to an on-site equine EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) session, also known "Arena EMDR."

During this free event at Western Trails Equestrian Park, you'll get the opportunity to meet Terri Keener and Laura Higgins of the Stable Arena, interact with members of Laura’s Helpful Herd, learn all about Arena EMDR, observe equine exercises (with an option to participate), and watch demonstrations of the early phases of Arena EMDR.

In addition to this event, the Responder Wellness Program will also host an Arena EMDR event available virtually over Zoom on May 18. Click here for details.

About the instructors

Terri Keener, LCSW, LSCSW – EMDR Therapist

Terri has been working with those affected by trauma for over 25 years. She has worked in various public settings including community mental health, education, juvenile justice, and child welfare. In private practice, she works primarily with first responders, veterans/active duty military, and victims of violent crime.

Before transitioning to full-time private practice, she was the Behavioral Health Coordinator for the Vegas Strong Resiliency Center, serving those affected by the Route 91 Harvest Festival shooting. Terri completed EMDR training in September 2019 and EquiLateral (Equine-Assisted EMDR Protocol) training in March 2021. She utilizes EMDR, including Recent Event Protocol and Arena EMDR, as her primary modality for treatment.

Laura Higgins – Equine Specialist and Tranquility Ranch Owner

Laura has been a Horse Trainer and Riding Instructor for more than 20 years. She became Certified for EAP in 2012 and no longer trains horses, but prefers to spend time engaged in the meaningful work of Equine Assisted Therapy.

Laura has been practicing Arena EMDR since completing EquiLateral training in March 2021. She facilitates programming specifically for first responders and veterans.
