About this Event
Jesse D. Hurlbut returns (after his interview in Episode 16 last June) by invitation to the RGME series wherein "The Research Group Speaks". With an illustrated presentation, he will describe his current project on comic books and medieval manuscripts. There will be scope for questions, feedback, and discussion. Together, we may consider the phenomenon of dynamic interactions between words and images found in books from widely distant centuries, yet in compellingly similar modes of presentation.
Jesse will survey his work on this project so far, then report further developments. As background reading, he suggests that we might look ahead of time at a short publication
- Comics Theory for the Ages: Text and Image Relations in Medieval Manuscripts.
— International Journal of Comic Art (2017)
Now, he says, "I'd like to pull together some new conclusions regarding the poetic 'language' of the medieval experience based on what I have learned from comics experts."
We invite you also to visit his own website, dedicated to the art of medieval manuscripts.
