Maliotis Cultural Center and the Boston Lykeion Ellinidon Department of Traditional Music invite you to an Epirotic Violin Masterclass with master violinist Aurel Kyrio on October 2nd at 7 pm in the Maliotis theater! This event is free and open to the public.
Aurel Kyrio (Nikolakis) was born in Korça, Albania on November 22, 1963. He has completed the Elementary, Middle school, and High School studies in the musical profile, focusing in instrumental Violin. He completed his higher studies at the Academy of Arts majoring as a Classical Conductor. Parallel to his classical music studies, he expresses his talent in traditional Epirotic music. In this way, he becomes part of many folklore groups as well as folklore expeditions in Albania and Greece. After the fall of communism in Albania, he spent 20 years in Greece as a violin teacher and at the same time as a violinist of Epirotic music, participant in many folklore festivals in Europe, USA, and Canada. Currently he resides in London and has spent the last 12 years as a Violinist in various music groups, collaborating with BBC 3, BBC 6, and BBC 2 in Hellenic center London. He has also collaborated with music producers such as Joe Boyd (producer of Pink Floyd), Jools Holland, and recently with Christopher King. He remains an active member of various music groups and divides his life between England and Greece.
