An Epiphany Procession will be presented on Sunday, January 25, 2026 at 4:00pm at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 205 Elmwood Avenue, Lynchburg, VA. Sponsored by the Lynchburg Chapter of the American Guild of Organists, this beautiful and historic liturgy will showcase choirs from St. John’s Episcopal Church, Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, and St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, with lessons and music for the season of Epiphany. In addition to beautiful choral works—including a piece written by St. John’s member Bill Greene—the program will feature several organ pieces performed by Peggy Haas Howell, including an exciting work by Garth Edmundson. Ms. Howell currently serves as National Vice President/Councillor for Competitions and New Music for the American Guild of Organists. Described as a “play-anything virtuoso” by The Cleveland Plain Dealer, she is a renowned recitalist who has performed throughout the United States as well as in England, Finland, Germany, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Hungary, and Poland.
A vibrant service recalling the journey of the Magi, the baptism of Jesus, and Jesus’s first miracle at the wedding in Cana, the procession serves as a visual and musical retelling of Christ’s manifestation to the world. Through pageantry, sacred readings, and congregational participation, worshipers are invited to reflect on the meaning of Epiphany: God’s light revealed in Christ for all people. This moving service offers a powerful conclusion to the Christmas season, joining music, scripture and ritual in a proclamation of Christ’s glory.
All are welcome—this service is free and open to the public. For more information, visit Stjohnslynchburg.org
