“Look! The Lamb of God!” It doesn’t sound like a very complimentary thing to say about someone. Lambs are weak and helpless. They easily fall prey to a variety of predators. And yet, that is exactly what the Son of God came to do for us. Jesus humbled himself and allowed those who hated him put him to death. But Jesus is more than a lamb. Jesus is the Lamb of God. Jesus had lived a perfect life. This was God’s Lamb. The Lamb who came to take away the sins of the world. The Lamb who died and rose! The Lamb who conquered sin and death for us! The Lamb who sits on his throne.
This Lamb is not weak. As weak and sinful people baptize people with water and the words of our Savior Jesus pours out his Holy Spirit on those baptized to create faith in our hearts. The Lamb is also our Shepherd. Jesus invites us to follow him in his Word and equips us to invite others to followhim as well.
