The Rules:
1. Your cosplay can be of any genre including but not limited to anime, games, manga, movies and TV shows. Fan arts are accepted. If you would like to have anything clarified, please reach out to the Anime in the Valley team before submitting your application.
2. Large props are allowed, however you may not be able to walk around the convention with them. This extends to large wings or banners.
3. Upon arrival on the day, you will be given a time and location for prejudging. You must attend this prejudging where you will have 2 minutes to discuss your cosplay (and props) and then 2-3 minutes will be given to the judges to inspect your cosplay and ask questions. Failure to arrive for pre-judging will result in your cosplay’s final score having points deducted.
4. You will have approximately 1-2 minutes on stage to show off your cosplay to the audience. During this time, the MC will read out the prepared statement about your cosplay.
5. No specific audio can be requested when you are on stage.
6. Whilst on stage, you are not to create any clean up or slipping hazards (ie. fake blood, bubble mixture, confetti etc.).
7. No acrobats are permitted on stage.
8. If you have a prop or cosplay with special effects that you want to show off, please include this in your application for assessment by the Cosplay team. There may be some special effects that will not be permitted on stage (ie. smoke).
9. All body paint and makeup must be sealed and will not rub off onto another cosplayer.
10. No nudity or profanity is permitted during prejudging or whilst on stage.
11. Anime in the Valley has the right to disqualify a contestant if their cosplay or their behaviour on stage or in prejudging is deemed offensive.
12. Anime in the Valley reserves the right to disqualify an entrant at any time if they believe that they have not shown good will to the wider cosplay community previously (ie. demonstrated poor sportsmanship) or during the competition itself.
