Dame Judith Hackitt, Chair of the review following the Grenfell tragedy, explores how good engineering can make the world a better place.
About this Event

The Grenfell Tower fire was a chilling lesson in how failure – human and technical – can lead to tragedy. In this public lecture – part of the EPC Annual Congress – Dame Judith Hackitt, who chaired the Independent Review of Building Regulations and Fire Safety following Grenfell, explores what other, more positive lessons we can learn about how to make the world better.

We face existential challenges: climate crisis, inequality, economic hardship. Engineering has perhaps played a part in creating these problems, but if we are going to solve them, engineering will need to be part of the answer.

Can engineering help to make the world a better place? And if so, how?

As well as chairing the Grenfell Tower Review, Dame Judith is Chair of the manufacturing trade body Make UK (formerly EEF). She also holds non-executive positions at HS2 Ltd, Made Smarter Commission, Imperial College Court, City & Guilds Group, and High Value Manufacturing Catapult. An engineer by profession, Dame Judith holds a degree in chemical engineering from Imperial College, London.

In this lecture that will appeal to people from all disciplines, she will cover some of her personal experiences, the importance of Ethics in engineering and buiding Safer Complex Systems.
