EPA Voices of the Village "Bridging the Gap, Reconnecting Boundaries"
The Equity Project Alliance will host its third Story Slam – Bridging the Gap: Reconnecting Boundaries – in the “From the Ground Up Community Garden”. The “garden” is located in a community often referred to as the “Lost Neighborhood.” The name was the result of the construction of the I-110 overpass which ran right through this historically Black neighborhood, displacing its residents and splitting apart the community.
The Hollis T. Williams Park project will reconnect the neighborhood to help restore vibrancy to the community. Councilwoman Teniade Broughton stated (PNJ/Nov. 2023), "When you talk about generational opportunity, this is the city's chance to reconnect this lost neighborhood and make it a gathering space.”
What a perfect space to gather to share stories. Come join the EPA as we listen to local stories of building bridges across differences, reconnecting with others, and forging new relationships.
