Cost for this 24-hour course is $200-220, and enrollment is limited to 20 students.

This course is designed to make participants better environmental interpreters and educators, so that others may learn about Florida’s natural history and conservation issues. This course will cover concepts such as the fundamentals of interpretation, key elements of an effective interpretive program, how to create themes, sub-messages and transitions, group management, addressing diverse audience needs, developing interpretive displays and practicing interpretive techniques.

FMNP: Environmental Interpretation Course Schedule:

September 15, 2023; 8:30am-5:30pm: Interpretive Presentations (UF/IFAS Extension Sarasota)

September 18, 2023; 8:30am-5:30pm: Guided Interpretation (UF/IFAS Extension Sarasota)

September 20, 2023; 8:30am-5:50pm: Interpretive Signage (Shamrock Park & Nature Center)

The Florida Master Naturalist Program (FMNP) is an adult education UF/IFAS Extension program developed by the University of Florida and provided by many Extension offices and participating organizations throughout the state of Florida. FMNP training will benefit those interested in learning more about Florida's environment or wishing to increase their knowledge for use in education programs as volunteers, employees, ecotourism guides, and others. Each Special Topic course is 24 contact hours, which includes presentations, class discussions and either planned activities and field trips to practice techniques or review concepts learned in the class. Special Topics courses are $200-220 each and include detailed course manuals, hands-on experience, and can be used for verification purposes such as might be required for obtaining CEUs, in-service credits, or resume checks.
