The American Chestnut tree was almost extinct. Blight had all but erradicated this native tree until dedicated scientsts, volunteers, and some insightful celebrities like Dolly Parton, President Jimmy Carter and musician Chuck Leavell banded together to bring the species back from the brink. Join RIFF, The Historic DeSoto Theatre and The GA Chapter of the American Foundation for an interesting film with an important tie to Northwest Georgia.Moderated by Kathy Patrick, vice president of the GA Chapter of the American Chestnut Foundation, the discussion after the film will also include Dr. Martin Cippolini, Dana professor of biology at Berry College, and Lisa Thomson who was instrumental in making the film and managing celebrity appearances.
