Watermelon Day at the Enterprise Farmers Market is going to be a day of mouthwatering fun!One of the South's favorite summertime treats will be celebrated with fun and games Saturday, June 29, at the Enterprise Farmers Market from 7 a.m. to noon!
From watermelon samples served up to refresh you while you shop, to the juicy watermelon eating competition, you can enjoy the tasty summertime treat in a variety of ways.
More than 30 produce, craft and food vendors at the market that day are bound to have great treats and craft items with a watermelon theme, including snow cones and lemonade made on the spot!
Though watermelon is the center of attention, vendors will also have fresh peak-season produce such as cantaloupes, tomatoes, peppers, squash, onions, peaches, plums, potatoes and a variety of other fruits and vegetables.
Handmade crafts will also be available for the shopper seeking unique items ranging from woodcrafts to embroidery, soaps and jewelry.
The market opens at 7 a.m. with the produce and arts and crafts vendors ready to greet customers.
The watermelon festivities will kick off at 8 a.m. with a welcome by Mayor William E. Cooper and our special guest, the 2024 Gulf Coast Watermelon Association Queen, Tori Hobbs, along with our local area queens.

Right after the welcome ceremony, farmers or backyard gardeners who want to enter their contenders in the Biggest Watermelon Contest will have a chance to win the Grand Prize and braggin' rights for the heaviest watermelon. Please arrive at the Market by 8 a.m. to be ready for the weigh-in at 8:30.
The ever-popular Seed-Spitting Contest starts at 9 a.m. In the past, winning spitters have made their mark with spits as long as 28 to 30 feet. Challengers can start practicing now to develop their skills for the perfect way to propel the tiny watermelon seed the farthest distance possible!
Winners will be determined in five age categories starting with 6-8 year-olds, 9-11, 12-14, 15-17 and 18 and above.
The action-packed Watermelon Rolling Contest begins at 10 a.m. for rollers ages 5 and under, 6-9, 10-13, 14-17 and (yes adults, this contest is for you too!) ages 18 and above.
The highlight of the day is the challenging, hilarious and very messy Watermelon Eating Contest, which begins at 11 a.m. The competition is for ages 6-8; 9-11, 12-14, 15-17 and 18 and above.
Practicing for this contest is sure to be yummy!

This is one of the most anticipated events of the year! Event organizers remind you that it's never too early to start practicing your eating and seed-spitting techniques and to build up your endurance for the rolling contest. So come and participate and, at the very least, enjoy the entertainment of the contests.
