Climb up the ladder and come on in. David J, co-founder of Bauhaus and Love & Rockets, is ready to welcome us up into the attic. For years, this is where three old shoeboxes containing a veritable treasure trove of lost songs laid amongst the dust and cobwebs, awaiting rediscovery.
Recorded by David J between 1984 and 2004 (with often just a guitar, tape recorder, lit candles and the blessing of his muse), these hidden gems have emerged from the shadows into the light, to be gathered in a stunning new compilation from Independent Project Records. Tracks From the Attic surveys decades of exquisite songcraft, exposing fascinating new aspects of David J’s artistry.

On Friday, May 3rd, to celebrate the commercial release of Tracks From the Attic, you’re invited to join us for an exclusive, one-of-a-kind event: Enter the Attic - an Evening with David J. Limited to just 100 lucky in-person attendees and for one night only, music and visual arts will intertwine at the distinctive Bodecker Foundation building in Portland, Oregon, a fittingly unique setting for an unforgettable 4-hour evening in three acts.
ACT 1: Interview/Q&A (VIP Ticketholders Only)
We’ll hear from the man himself: David J will retrace his impressive, five-decade artistic journey in an interview and Q&A led by fellow singer-songwriter, Independent Project Records co-owner and old-time friend Jeffrey Clark (Shiva Burlesque).
ACT 2: Live Performance
David will perform a short, intimate, solo acoustic set of selections from Tracks From the Attic, followed by a set of career-spanning songs backed by a full band. All of it from the bottom of the iconic Bodecker skate pool, which has been featured on the Stephen Colbert Show and is known for its incredible acoustics and striking design.
ACT 3: Gallery Showing (VIP Ticketholders Only)
Enjoy up close and personal access to the artist, as you experience a private viewing of David’s original paintings, inspired by Tracks From the Attic, some of which are also included in the lush deluxe box set of Tracks From the Attic.
