About the Course
Entanglements – Writing the Environment is a course that offers participants the opportunity to enhance their storytelling skills and interests in ways that promote and illustrate environmental awareness, concerns and sensitivities.
This 4-day course will focus on different approaches to writing that challenges the human scale, provide new understandings of time, and account for more-than-human agents. Participants will explore diverse issues of the environment captured in writing through experimenting with a variety of writing forms from the glossary definition, annotations, essay, review, poetry, short fiction and novel.
The course format will include examination of literary texts related to environmental themes, writing practice as well as reviews and edits to texts produced throughout the course. Class discussions and stimulating writing exercises will enable participants to develop a personal style, critically analyse developments in the field of environmental literature, integrate environmental concerns in the storytelling of fiction and non-fiction and recognize writing as an important form of environmental action.
By the end of this course, participants will have a new literary appreciation and increased confidence in writing about the natural world.
