As part of the A.D. White Professors-at-Large program at Cornell University, we are pleased to welcome author and thought leader Cory Doctorow to campus on Friday, September 19, for a discussion with the Cornell Tech community.
Doctorow is widely recognized for his extensive contributions to, and advocacy in, the arena of digital rights discourse, particularly as it relates to digital sovereignty and emerging AI. An author of over 20 books, both in fiction and non-fiction, Doctorow served as co-editor, and current co-owner, of one of the earliest and most successful blogs, Boing Boing, a digital nucleus intermixing themes of technology, futurism, science fiction, and intellectual property.

About Cory Doctorow
Cory Doctorow (craphound.com) is a science fiction author, activist and journalist. He is the author of many books, most recently PICKS AND SHOVELS and THE BEZZLE (followups to RED TEAM BLUES) and THE LOST CAUSE, a solarpunk science fiction novel of hope amidst the climate emergency. His most recent nonfiction book is THE INTERNET CON: HOW TO SEIZE THE MEANS OF COMPUTATION, a Big Tech disassembly manual. Other recent books include RED TEAM BLUES, a science fiction crime thriller; CHOKEPOINT CAPITALISM, nonfiction about monopoly and creative labor markets; the LITTLE BROTHER series for young adults; IN REAL LIFE, a graphic novel; and the picture book POESY THE MONSTER SLAYER. In 2020, he was inducted into the Canadian Science Fiction and Fantasy Hall of Fame.

About James Grimmelmann
James Grimmelmann is the Tessler Family Professor of Digital and Information Law at Cornell Tech and Cornell Law School. He studies how laws regulating software affect freedom, wealth, and power. He helps lawyers and technologists understand each other, applying ideas from computer science to problems in law and vice versa.
Grimmelmann is the author of the casebook “Internet Law: Cases and Problems” and of over seventy scholarly articles and essays on digital copyright, content moderation, search engine regulation, online governance, privacy on social networks, and other topics in computer and internet law.
