About this Event
Our annual teen Eno Climate Champions program is back with a new twist! Local teens are invited to join the Eno River Association for a FREE four-session series focusing on the role of Piedmont prairie restoration in a changing climate. During these sessions, students will learn about the history and current status of Piedmont prairies, the benefits of these ecosystems, and how they can be reintroduced in the area.
**Snacks, guest speakers, and resume-building opportunities provided! Recommended ages 12-17 years old.
Directions and accessibility info: The second session will take place at the Confluence Natural Area in Hillsborough. The address is 4214 Highland Farm Road, Hillsborough, NC 27278. We will meet under the pavilion located at the end of the gravel road and adjacent to the gravel parking lot (you can't miss it!). The majority of this program will take place "in the field", which involves traversing different terrain types (gravel road, grassy field, etc.), using some tools for tree planting, and engaging in physical activity. There are two accessible parking spaces adjacent to the pavilion. Restrooms are available on site.
Second session details: This session will be focused around helping our ERA Stewardship Team to plant some trees for the Piedmont Prairie. This is a critical step in ensuring we are creating quality habitat that will enhance biodiversity and other ecosystem services. Participants will get to learn about the process of Piedmont Prairie restoration and then actually help with some plantings!
Future session details: Exact dates for future sessions are TBD, but we are expecting to host two more sessions in the spring (likely April and May).
