Giuseppe Tornatore, who worked with the legendary film composer Ennio Morricone on thirteen films, (including the Oscar-winning Cinema Paradiso) finished this expansive, loving tribute after his friend’s passing in 2020. Filled with generous musical excerpts and tributes from the likes of John Williams, Clint Eastwood, Bernardo Bertolucci, Quincy Jones, Quentin Tarantino, and Hans Zimmer, the film is a true feast. Tornatore’s connection to the material reveals “a clear affection for his subject — the film treats Morricone with the tenderness of a close friend, insisting that we see him for more than the melodies that made him famous.” (Washington Post)
