Why should I do this workshop?

Three reasons. First, it will help you to understand the psychology of interviewing. Second, it will show how to apply skills you already have to conduct high quality, insightful interviews. And third, it will help you to identify and screen out candidates who could become a major HR headache.

This skills-based workshop is for everyone regardless of whether you are about to do your first interview or have been interviewing for years. (I have been interviewing for over 40 years and am still learning). It will help you to accurately assess both competencies and personality. It provides techniques to increase the effectiveness of competency-based questions while allowing potentially damaging attitudes and values to be identified. The course provides a clear structure covering pre-screening, short listing, interview preparation, questioning techniques, note taking, legal considerations, minimising candidate nerves, detecting deception, interpreting answers, referee checks and report preparation.

Previous course participants have remarked that they were surprised at how easy the techniques were to apply and the valuable insights they gained into the attitudes and values of the candidates.

The key learning outcomes are:

  • Explaining the psychological framework of interviewing
  • Recognising and avoiding unconscious bias
  • Using inductive questioning to assess attitudes and values
  • Using competency-mapping and deductive questioning to assess competencies
  • Detecting possible deception and identifying areas for in-depth examination
  • Interpreting interview responses and reporting against competencies
  • Setting up a process to validate selection decisions

All personal development events are subject to HRNZ Terms and Conditions.

Registrations for this course close 08:30am Wednesday 16 August, unless sold out prior.
