About this Event
English Bastard tells the story of Londoner Joe who has travelled on the ferry to Carrick-on-Suir in Ireland to bury the last of his aunties. After the service, he goes for a quiet drink in a local pub but his evening is soon disturbed when a gang of rowdy local kids make their way inside. Joe orders another round, determined to stand his ground and soon enough, he is absolutely rat-arsed and looking for a fight. This is made worse when one of the boys, Eoghan, hears Joe’s cockney accent and calls him an “English Bastard”. Joe, having been born in Ireland and owning an Irish passport, rises to the challenge and squares up to Eoghan. He downs one last JD and Coke and then…he blacks out.
Joe wakes up the next morning on the beach in Tramore, two hours outside of Carrick. His glasses are missing, his Ben Sherman is covered in blood and he has no idea how he got there. Upon returning to his hotel room, he finds that it is trashed, his glasses are in the bog and one of the boys from the night before is under his bed. When Joe sobers up, he soon realises that something is missing: his Irish passport. Armed with this knowledge, he goes on a mission to retrieve this symbol of his national identity and piece together the night before. His main suspect is Eoghan, the rowdy boy from the night before...
