For antibiotic affect
The remedy comes from a 1,000-year-old medical book called Bald’s Leechbook, held in the British Library. It contains a blend of garlic, onion (or leek), wine, and cow bile, left to brew in a brass container for nine days.
When tested by microbiologists from the University of Nottingham and Texas Tech University, the mixture proved surprisingly potent—even against modern-day antibiotic-resistant bacteria like MRSA.
Researchers believe the combination—not individual ingredients—creates the lethal effect, showing that synergy in historical medicine may rival, or even exceed, modern formulations in specific cases.
This finding is now helping drive new research into "ancientbiotics" as viable weapons against the global superbug crisis.
