This talk will cover both the role of a decarbonised electricity system within meeting the overall Net Zero target and how this could be delivered.
About Dr David Joffe
Dr David Joffe recently started as Chief Energy System Advisor in ‘Mission Control’, which is charged with delivery of the new Government’s 2030 Clean Power target. Prior to this, he was Head of Net Zero at the Climate Change Committee, where he worked for 16 years and played a leading role in setting the targets and vision for Net Zero and the pathway to it. He then, earlier in 2024, led a project at the Royal Academy of Engineering on how rapid decarbonisation of the GB electricity system, working with Sir (now Lord) Patrick Vallance.

The Centre for Energy Policy (CEP) is celebrating 10 years of shaping energy policy. Established in 2014 and based at the University of Strathclyde, the centre works with government, industry and other partners to understand and address the pressing public policy challenge of ensuring transitions to net zero deliver sustainable and more equitable prosperity. Over the last decade, CEP’s research has helped shape UK and Scottish Government policy across the areas of industrial decarbonisation, energy efficiency, low carbon heating and transport and energy infrastructure.
