I want to bring awareness to the epidemic of drug overdose among so many of our loved ones. I will line the trail with posters of our loved ones we have lost to this horrible epidemic. If you choose, you can send me a picture and name of who you are doing this 5k in honor of. Totally optional, of course. This is for everyone, whether you have lost someone you love, whether you used to be in active addiction, or you love someone who is in current addiction, or you're simply an ally, or a support! You can come out and just cheer on the runner/walkers, or you can take place in the 5K. I am trying to see how many would be interested in joining me, so I know if I need to get a permit. For now the location is tentative, but it will be in Tacoma. I will have refreshments and fun mementos for completion of the race. Proceeds will first go to Dawson A. Poorbear's headstone, as he is still in an unmarked grave almost a year after his passing. Dawson is my son's father and he passed away last March of 2024 from a fentanyl laced methamphetamine overdose. I miss him everyday he was truly one of a kind as is every other soul that we lose to this awful drug! Any proceeds left after that, will go to Recovery Cafe where Dawson spent a lot of his final days at. If anyone is interested in helping in any way I would appreciate any help in making my dream come to fruition! Each person lost has a soul, has a story, and has people that love them so much! Not another statistic! Not another death! It ends with us. We are the generation that brings sobriety to the forefront. I chose August as that is his birth month, and Overdose Awareness Day is August 31st.
