Embroidery is one of the world’s oldest commercial and personal art forms and is a rich source of creative inspiration. Embroidery is more than just stitches in fabric. It is a creation that can express our lives and personal preferences.
Participants will have an opportunity to create a replica of the tent fragment and a visit to the artifact on display.
In preparation for reproducing the flower motif, participants will make a practice embroidery “piece” using a variety of mid-19th century stitches. A further practical element will include trying different thread and needle types.
This hands-on program will develop basic embroidery skills. It will also survey the history, materials, tools, patterns, instruction manuals, and other historical sources, together with the social aspects of mid-19th century embroidery.
Join us in the Ford Education Center at the Gettysburg National Military Park Museum & Visitor Center for this all-day program from 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Lunch is included. All materials and tools included.
