Encore Classical Music and Dinner Series: Gulfport High School Chamber Orchestra

We are excited to announce our newest program, Encore! A Classical Music & Dinner Series at the Ohr-O’Keefe Museum of Art. This program is launching with two programs, a concert with the Gulfport High School Chamber Orchestra on September 21st , and a second with Michael Furlong and Quinn Peeper of Classical Shindig on October 26th. You can either pay for each concert or get tickets to both for our series.
The first program features music inspired by Hispanic Heritage Month assembled by Daniel Martinez, the maestro of Gulfport High School’s Chamber Orchestra. Pairing with the performance, we will have Colombian cuisine from Los Kioskos restaurant located in Gulfport.
Wine, dine, and be transported to distant lands thanks to the musical stylings of the Gulfport High School Chamber Orchestra!

Daniel Martinez began his cello studies at nine in San Pedro Sula, Honduras. He continued his studies at the Victoriano Lopez Music School in San Pedro Sula. In 2001, Mr. Martinez entered The University of Southern Mississippi on a full scholarship, studying there with Dr. Alexander Russakovsky and serving as principal cellist in the university orchestra. After earning his Bachelor of Music degree in 2006, he accepted a teaching position with the Gulfport School District Strings Program in Gulfport, Mississippi. In 2009, he was honored to take the position of Director of Orchestral Activities with the Gulfport School District. Mr. Martinez is a member of several chamber music ensembles, including the Oaklawn Chamber Music Society and Momentum String Quartet, among others, and is currently a member of the Mobile Symphony Orchestra, Gulf Coast Symphony Orchestra, and Pensacola Symphony Orchestra. Since 2014, Mr. Martinez also serves at the music director and principal conductor for the Gulf Coast Symphony Youth Orchestra which includes some of the best high school orchestral players from the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Daniel is an avid follower of fútbol (or soccer) and spends much of his free time watching both international and club matches. He, his wife, Catherine, and their cat, Stormy, are big fans of FC Barcelona.
