On Wednesday, December 4, from 12 to 2 p.m., as part of our Midday-Make series, please join regional artist Francy Forte for your chance to make seasonal encaustic cards in this introduction to encaustics workshop. Encaustic painting is an all organic medium consisting of purified beeswax and damar resin (hardened tree sap). Unlike any other art medium, encaustic goes from warm to cold, not wet to dry. The heat of the wax fuses it to the surface beneath. In this workshop you will learn the basics of handling the medium through a variety of techniques such as hand drawing, stencilling and brushwork. All materials, a light snack and refreshments are included, but participants are welcome to bring their own lunch. No previous experience is necessary.
