En CaminoSkills to share Tango in your Community
Develop the tools to share your tango experience with students in your community, help them catch the tango bug and transmit your love of the dance!
Tango is complex and beautiful, and to teach it - especially to beginners and improvers - requires clear, fast decisions about the information we share, and how we transmit it.
This course will introduce key ideas and principles including:
- choosing the most effective language;
- using contact as a teaching tool;
- focusing on key ideas;
- the balance of a beginner class;
- leading and following with beginner dancers.
There will be a chance to share questions and experiences, lots of personalised feedback, and tasks each week to take away and work on. It is aimed at those who would like to support and encourage curious beginners in their communities as well as those who are already teaching or facilitating practice spaces.
Caroline has been teaching dance - and studying how to teach dance - for 18 years, and was part of the DNI Tango School from 2014 until it closed in 2020. As well as teaching students of different ages, backgrounds and nationalities during that time, she has trained with the ISTD and the Yoga Alliance. DNI was known for its rigorous technique and excellent pedagogy, and the staff dedicated hours each week to improving their teaching by learning from each other.
This is not a ‘complete’ training or a formal qualification - as you know, there is no ‘finished product’ in tango! But if you would like to explore ways of sharing this fascinating dance and encouraging more people to discover it, these six encounters will be rich, rewarding and really useful.
If you have any questions, please let us know!
Each encounter will be 3 hours, and will look something like this:
1-1.15 - arrival, warmup, change shoes, dance if you would like to!
1.15-2.45 - workshop
2.45-3.50 - guided práctica - feedback from Caroline on your ‘dancer’ rather than your ‘teacher’. This time is offered in exchange for a contribution (‘a la gorra’) which will go towards the cost of the hall, refreshments, etc.
