This EMT Skills Verification course is designed for Emergency Medical Technicians seeking to renew their certification through the successful demonstration of essential clinical competencies. Tailored for individuals who have completed the required 24 hours of Continuing Education (CE), this hands-on course provides a rigorous evaluation of critical skills necessary for maintaining certification and ensuring high standards of patient care.
Course Objectives:
Participants will be assessed on their proficiency in the following key areas:
- Trauma Assessment: Conducting a comprehensive trauma evaluation to identify and address injuries effectively.
- Medical Assessment: Performing thorough medical assessments to diagnose and manage various medical conditions.
- Bag Valve Mask Ventilation: Demonstrating proper techniques for providing effective ventilation using a bag valve mask.
- Oxygen Administration: Administering oxygen correctly and managing oxygen therapy for patients in need.
- Cardiac Arrest Management with AED: Applying appropriate procedures for managing cardiac arrest, including the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).
- Hemorrhage Control and Shock Management: Implementing strategies to control bleeding and manage shock in trauma and medical emergencies.
- Spinal Motion Restriction – Supine and Seated: Applying proper spinal motion restriction techniques for patients in both supine and seated positions.
- Penetrating Chest Injury: Managing and treating penetrating chest injuries with accurate assessment and intervention.
- Epinephrine and Naloxone Administration: Administering epinephrine and naloxone effectively for critical conditions such as anaphylaxis and opioid overdose.
- Childbirth and Neonatal Resuscitation: Providing appropriate care during childbirth and performing neonatal resuscitation procedures as required.
Course Format:
This course utilizes practical, scenario-based evaluations to assess each participant’s ability to perform these skills accurately and efficiently. Participants will engage in simulated patient care scenarios to demonstrate their proficiency under realistic conditions. Each skill will be assessed individually and feedback will be provided to ensure mastery of the required competencies.
Target Audience:
This course is intended for EMTs who have completed the requisite 24 hours of Continuing Education and are seeking to verify their skills as part of the recertification process. It is suitable for both seasoned professionals and those returning to practice.
Prerequisites:
- Completion of 24 hours of Continuing Education (CE).
- Valid EMT certification or documentation of previous certification.
Certification:
Upon successful completion of the course and skills verification, participants will receive documentation confirming their skills proficiency, which will facilitate the renewal of their EMT certification.

The Simulation Center is located on the Street Level of AHSP building. We recommend parking in Lot P4 (HERE). Parking fees apply.
