About this Event
EmpowerU is a new hybrid program that is designed to grow your skills on how to use science-based information to engage decision-makers about issues you are concerned about meaningfully. By the end of this course, you will have developed a 4-5 page roadmap to address your issue. This training will enhance your skills in interpersonal leadership, effective communication, and the development of partnerships.
Topics covered include:
- Learn about engagement
- Learn how to find reliable information
- Understand influence, power, and persuasion
- Review best practices for listening and questioning
- Learn about framing an issue
- Create an engagement plan
The EmpowerU program is a 6-week series (September 9- October 16) with approximately 8 hours of online training via Canvas and five live workshop sessions (4 via Zoom and 1 in person). Completing all online modules and workshop sessions is required to complete the course. Please allow for at least 1-2 hours of online work each week and be able to engage in all 5 live workshop sessions.

- Tuesday, September 10, 2024, 2 hours (Zoom) (3:00 pm-5:00 pm)
- Tuesday, September 24, 2024; 2 hours (zoom) (3:00 pm- 5:00 pm)
- Tuesday, October 1, 2024; 2 hours (Zoom) (3:00 pm-5:00 pm)
- Tuesday, October 8, 2024; 1.5 hours (Zoom) (3:00 pm-4:30 pm)
- October 16, 2024, 4 hours (In-person) (9:00 am-1:00 pm)*
