Our monthly series is a holistic approach to self-defense, designed for female-identifying, femme, and non-binary adults and teens.
About this Event

Our female-led and focused classes are designed to provide a range of physical, verbal, and emotional self-defense techniques within a supportive and empowering environment.

Whether you want to enhance your personal safety, boost your confidence, or connect with a community of like-minded individuals, our classes are perfect for you.

What to Expect:

  • Holistic Training: We believe in providing options so one can choose the strategies and techniques that best fit their needs and circumstances. Each month we'll focus on various strategies for your "safety toolbox", including Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu based self-defense techniques, verbal strategies, and mindset reflections.
  • Interactive Sessions: Through games, discussions, and physical activity, we hope you'll leave with practical takeaways, new friends, and a deeper connection to yourself. No experience is required, only a willingness to learn, get moving, and actively participate.
  • Supportive Environment: Our classes foster a safe and inclusive space where participants can share experiences, ask questions, and support one another. You'll be part of a community that values empowerment and mutual respect. No one is expected to do anything they feel uncomfortable with. We even provide snacks!

Workshop Details:

  • Date: Last Sunday of each month
  • Time: 4:30 - 6:00 pm
  • Location: Flow Martial Arts, 1355 Kingsway, Vancouver.
  • Cost: $30/session or $75 for 3

  • Parent-Teen Special: Sign up together for $45
  • FYI: Each month will touch on different topics and scenarios and yet we will revisit techniques to help build muscle memory and work on reflex development. Sign up for one class or many!

BONUS: Free access to our new online intro to self-defense course, so you can work on building your confidence at home.

Why Attend?

Attending our Empowerment Self-Defense (ESD) workshops will equip you with a broad set of skills to handle various situations confidently. You’ll learn strategies based on the following principles:

  • Think: Recognize and respond to warning signs of danger, enhancing your situational awareness, intuition, and decision-making abilities.
  • Yell: Assertively communicate and set boundaries, using your voice as a powerful tool to deter potential threats and assert your right to safety.
  • Run and Fight: Utilize effective physical self-defense techniques that prioritize getting to safety. Learn how to defend yourself using practical and powerful moves designed to create the opportunity to escape.
  • Tell: Understand the importance of seeking support and sharing your experiences with trusted individuals or authorities. This step ensures that you’re not alone in your journey and helps create a safer environment for others.

By mastering these principles, you'll gain the confidence and skills necessary to navigate and respond to challenging situations, empowering yourself to live boldly and securely.

Plus, by attending multiple classes offers greater opportunities to hone your new skills.
