NWI NOW has moved to Wednesdays and we're kicking off 2026 with an all ages workshop led by Jess Kern, Executive Director at the Raindrops Rising Foundation! Self-defense basics are the same for everyone, but women and non-binary individuals often deal with extra challenges (e.g. more likely to know their attacker, women's physical strength is in their hips not their upper body, etc).
That’s why learning strategies designed with women’s and gender-divrese people's real-life experiences in mind can make a big difference. Raindrops Rising Foundation’s Jess Kern will be leading a self defense workshop designed for women and gender diverse individuals, that can be modified for accessibility for disabilities or seniors.
ALL ACTIVITIES ARE 100% OPTIONAL
You can do 1, all, or none of the hands on practices
FOR THE GUYS: You know we wouldn’t leave you out in the cold! Men are welcome to attend and participate. The training will be useful for you, too, and you may want to share some of your new skills with the women, girls, and gender-diverse people in your life.
We meet at the Hawthorne Park Community Center (500 Ackerman Drive, Porter) at 6:00 for social half hour and refreshments. The event begins at 6:45. All ages, genders, nations of origin, abilities, etc are welcome.
