Alzheimer's disease is a growing concern, impacting an ever-increasing number of families. Megan Olsen, Regional Manager of Community Engagement with the Alzheimer's Association, will discuss the Building Foundations of Caregiving.
This series explores the role of the caregiver and the changes they may experience during their caregiving journey.
Megan has been with the Alzheimer’s Association for the past 6 years serving constituents throughout the greater Quad Cities region. She directs the Walk to End Alzheimer’s – Moline/Quad Cities, Walk to End Alzheimer’s – Clinton, and Jackson Co. Alzheimer’s Walk. The Walk to End Alzheimer’s is the world’s
largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s and dementia care, support, and research.
She also oversees the Memories in the Making Art Therapy Program and Art Gala. The one-of-a-kind Art Gala highlights original artwork created by participants living with a form of dementia. In addition, Megan delivers educational programs throughout the region, connecting participants with the supportive services the Alzheimer’s Association provides.
Her passion for being with the Association began when she encountered the caregiving journey first-hand with her grandma as she moved in with her family the day she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. Her parents attended Alzheimer’s Association educational programs and support groups, which fundamentally impacted her family’s caregiving experience.
Before joining the Association, Megan served as the Executive Director of a memory care-focused senior living community in Davenport. She also volunteered with the Alzheimer’s Association serving on the Memories in the Making and Walk to End Alzheimer’s committees, serving as the Walk Planning Committee Chair.
Megan is a graduate of Marquette University in Milwaukee, WI. She resides in Davenport with her two girls, husband, and family dog. Megan currently volunteers as both a WyldLife leader and youth ministry volunteer at St. Paul the Apostle Church, focusing on supporting middle schoolers through their faith journey.
