Watch Hill Therapy presents a workshop that explores the birth challenges of trauma survivors and the importance of trauma informed care.
About this Event

This workshop is designed for women considering getting pregnant, actively pursuing pregnancy, or currently pregnant who want to learn more about many of the unaddressed emotional and physical aspects of pregnancy, birth, and postpartum related to trauma. Trauma may include, but is not limited to, sexual or physical abuse, emotional or physical neglect, violence, challenging parental relationships, medical issues, previous traumatic pregnancy or birth, miscarriage, losses, and relational difficulties.

Our goal is to leave participants with a self-empowerment model of care that addresses the often unseen, unknown, and painful aspects of the prenatal and postpartum period in hopes to create a smoother path and greater peace. During this workshop, the key questions that will be addressed are:

  • What is trauma?
  • How can being a trauma survivor impact me through pregnancy, labor, and beyond? What can I expect as I look ahead towards pregnancy?
  • What does receiving "trauma informed care" mean and how do you know if your doctor is able to support a trauma survivor through pregnancy and birth?
  • How do I manage trauma triggers, procedures, exams, challenging emotional issues such as fear, anxiety, panic, and depression?
  • What barriers might there be to accessing trauma informed resources and what supports are available that are accessible?

Come join us for a 90 minute lecture and time after for questions and resources.
