Photo: Irene YoungFollowing last year's sold-out concert at The Freight, Emma’s Revolution returns with another roster of friends, performing powerful songs of justice, joy & resilience.
Known for fearless, truth-telling lyrics and melodies you can’t resist singing, Emma's Revolution is the award-winning activist duo of Pat Humphries & Sandy O, whose songs have been praised by Pete Seeger, covered by Holly Near, featured on NPR’s All Things Considered and Pacifica’s Democracy Now! and sung around the world.
Special guests will perform on Emma’s Revolution’s songs and, this year, Emma’s Revolution will also perform on their guests’ songs. The concert is a fundraiser for the feature documentary being made by award-winning independent filmmaker, Tom Weidlinger, about the duo, their songs and their decades of work on the frontlines of peace and social justice movements.
Maggie Wheeler — Known internationally for her work as an actor—most notably as Janice on the hit series Friends—Maggie is a passionate singer, songwriter and choir director, with over 30 years of leading creative vocal harmony-making with groups around the world.
Vicki Randle — Vocalist/percussionist extraordinaire whose performing legacy includes The Tonight Show Band, The Mavis Staples Band, Rufus with Chaka Khan and her own Bay Area alt rock/funk band, Skip the Needle.
Jaeger & Reid — Beloved singing and songwriting duo with deep roots in Oakland’s music scene, Jaeger & Reid are known for striking vocals, intelligent songs and rich harmonies.
Lea Morris — Drawing comparisons to Tracy Chapman and Joni Mitchell, Germany-based Lea Morris’ warm vocals, insightful lyrics, and powerful songs lift hearts and connect communities.
Julie Wolf — Stellar keyboard & accordionist, composer, music director & educator who has performed with the Indigo Girls, Joan Baez and more
Jan Martinelli — Bassist and longtime performing, arranging and writing collaborator with Holly Near, Jan performs and records in a wide variety of styles from Motown to Latin Jazz to French Chanson.
David Rokeach — “Perhaps the best all-around drummer in the Bay Area, with a resume that includes road duty with Ray Charles and Aretha Franklin”
