We are delighted to have Emma Sheardown as our next Guest Speaker for the Support Group. Emma will provide short talks on the following topics.
✸There’s No Such Word As Can’t: = A motivational talk sharing my story of growing up with a disability, becoming world and european para dressage champion and going onto battle and conquer depression when my career came to an end. During this talk I will share the highs and lows, the triumphs and challenges as I prove to you that whatever you go through in life, there really is ‘no such word as can’t.’
✸Turning No into Go: = We all face challenges in our lives, but how we overcome those challenges is down to mindset. We have a choice; we can face our challenges head on and find ways to overcome whatever lies ahead or, we can turn our back and run. During this talk, I discuss the mindset around my parents decisions at the time of my diagnosis and how they turned their motivation into action. I also encourage my audience to think about and share the things behind their motivation to action.
✸ Don’t ‘Dis’ Ability: = I have faced many challenges in living with Cerebral Palsy, many are bought about by society and the world around not being accessible or inclusive. During this talk I will share some of my experiences of trying to navigate a world where access is still a luxury and not a given, and where there is still a battle with people’s attitudes and assumptions. I aim to give audiences the knowledge and the confidence to ‘be brave, say hello’ and play their part in helping to create a more accessible and inclusive society.
